Advanced Microdermabrasion at NCMC

Microdermabrasion for Younger, Healthy-Looking Skin

Improve or eliminate superficial skin problems with Advanced Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical and non-invasive procedure that removes the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells to reveal younger, healthier-looking skin. Microdermabrasion treatment also encourages the production of a new layer of skin cells containing higher levels of collagen and elastin, both of which further improve your skin's appearance.

Microdermabrasion: Results on all skin types and colors...

Microdermabrasion can improve or eliminate superficial skin problems. It works on all skin types and colors to produce subtle changes, causing no skin color change or scarring. However, it is not very effective for problems such as stretch marks, keloids (an overgrowth of scar tissue at the site of a healed skin injury) or deep acne scars. Palomar 500 laser treatments are the treatment of choice for these types of skin problems. Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical procedure, so there are little to no risks.

Microdermabrasion.. it's not just for your face!

Microdermabrasion techniques are used to polish and refine the skin all over the body. Just as microdermabrasion is used on the face to diminish the appearance of lines, wrinkles, superficial scars, and discoloration, it can also be used quite effectively on the entire body surface. Microdermabrasion can help smooth rough surfaces which occur on the elbows, knees and heels. Patients who undergo body microdermabrasion enjoy the same benefits of facial microdermabrasion treatments. At NCMC Advanced Skin Care Program our Advanced Microdermabrasion is done with medical grade baking soda crystals so we can actually do treatments right around your eyes and mouth! (See section on Frequently Asked Questions on Advanced Microdermabrasion!)

Preparing For Your Advanced Microdermabrasion Treatment

Microdermabrasion has almost no pre-treatment requirements. You may be asked to stop using products that contain aspirin, however you will need to check with Doc first. If you are a smoker, it would be better if you stopped smoking for a week before microdermabrasion, in order to improve the circulation of blood to the skin. If you are using Retin-A, Renova, Differin and certain glycolic acid products on a daily basis, stop doing so for about five days before your microdermabrasion appointment. It is also best to avoid sunbathing, using sunbeds or waxing your skin for two weeks prior to treatment to lessen the sensitivity your skin may experience. Beyond that, just lay back and let us pamper you for a while!

What Should You Expect During the Procedure

Microdermabrasion treatments last approximately 30 minutes and are performed on an out-patient basis. The area to be treated will be cleaned using our fantastic Clarisonic MD with special preconditioners depending on your skin type and active complexion issues, and then medical grade baking soda crystals will be used to gently exfoliate your skin. No anesthesia is needed. Microdermabrasion machine pressure is adjusted for your skin's needs as its hand piece is moved across the treatment area delivering a precise stream of crystals onto the skin's surface. The sloughed off skin cells and the left-over crystals are then suctioned off to reveal a fresh, vibrant skin surface. We finish off your treatment with special rebalancing and/or medically active products from PCA to leave you with a healthy glow that everyone will notice. No doubt about it-our patients love our Advanced Microderm treatments!

Initial Microdermabrasion Benefits are Immediate

Usually, benefits from microdermabrasion treatments are immediately apparent. However, optimal results will not be visible until all recommended treatments have been completed. The number of treatments required typically ranges from five to twelve sessions spaced a week or two apart depending on your skin condition at the start and how quickly your skin responds to the treatments. As with all of our skin procedures combining our Advanced Microderm with our PCA chemical peels and our PCA baseline skin care programs such as our Anti-Aging protocols yield unsurpassed results.

Safe Skin Rejuvenation Procedures - Minimal Risk of Side-Effects

Because Microdermabrasion is non-invasive it has a low risk of complications and is one of the safest skin rejuvenation procedures available. Using the Medical Grade baking Soda makes it even safer! Some patients report redness or dry feeling in their skin after a treatment, but this is temporary. Typical care following your Microdermabrasion treatment includes the use of moisturizers and sunscreens, and avoiding sun exposure for a few days. Our PCA post procedure kits are great for post procedure hydration and sun protection.
